Blizzard Halts, Cold Continues Through Northwest. ARCTIC WAVE IS SPREADING EAST Blizzard Halts, Cold Continues Through Northwest. COAL IS SCARCE Colder at Helena. HELENA, Mont., Dee. 12.—It was colder in Helena tonight than last night. Although the blizzard ceased, little moderation of cold is reported. It was 16 to 21 below here tonight. Trains are late. Lewistown Gets Coal LEWISTOWN, Mont., Dec. 12.—The coal situation improved today. It was 2 below zero during the day, 5 below this evening. Eighty tons of coal were distributed in small lots. The railways get coal on the branch lines. Further train curtailment may be avoided. Stock Losses Expected, GREAT FALLS, Mont., Dec. 12.— The mercury today indicates warmer weather. Fifteen below zero was the coldest today, two below the warmest. A stiff wind from south of west started this afternoon and snow is drifting. No suffering is reported, but stock is fed in the cellar. Shortage of hay is acute in the Fairfield country and stock losses are expected. Anaconda Needs Coal. ANACONDA, Mont., Dec. 12.—It was 18 below at 8 o'clock tonight. The snow is the deepest in 32 years. Coal is scarce. Missoula Reports 21 Below. MISSOULA, Mont., Dec. 12. -- Twenty-one below zero at 6 o'clock tonight was the coldest in several years. Snow has ceased and the skies are clear. Six below was the day's maximum. Traffic is curtailed, due to lack of coal.
