Alaska's Heat Wave Transfers Into Northwest Mercury Hits 105 at Pasco, While Walla Walla Seared with Reading of 103. (By the Associated Press) Summer's official advent brought a heat wave to the Pacific northwest yesterday (Monday) and the mercury touched 100 or over in various eastern Washington and Idaho points and climbed well into the 80's on the Pacific coast slope. Alaska, which simmered in unseasonable heat last week, enjoyed relief as rain sprinkled both the coast and interior. Kodiak island, recording 70 degrees, was the hottest place in the territory. Pasco, recording 105, held the high mark for Washington state, although Walla Walla with a U. S. weather bureau reading of 102 and an unofficial 103, ran Pasco a close second. Yakima had an even 100. Spokane's 104 at Boise Seattle's official maximum was 81, Portland's 82, Vancouver, B. C.'s 84 and Victoria's 74. Boise. Idaho, sweltered in 104 degrees. The U. S. weather bureau report showed Phoenix, Ariz., with 112 degrees, was the hot spot of the country north of the Mexican boundary. The weather man opened the oven on the Wenatchee valley today and the heat rolled in to set a new high for the season of 98 degrees.
