Chinese Appeal For Clothes for Flood Sufferers An appeal for contributions of cast-off clothing to relieve flood victims in Kwangtung province, China, was voiced yesterday by Iceland Chin, secretary of the, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent association of Portland. "More than 1000 persons lost their lives and approximately 1500 homes were destroyed by a 15-foot wall of water which swept over the province inland from Canton a little over two months ago," Mr. Chin said. "With winter coming on the homeless are desperate." He revealed that Chinese in all parts of the country have contributed approximately $20,000, Chinese, for relief of their suffering countrymen and relatives. In Portland the Hoy Yin association, named for the devastated district, has been organized by members of the benevolent group to carry on relief activities. Mr. Chin makes his headquarters at the Oriental Gardens, 203 Southwest Second avenue. Text Iceland Washington State University: WSU Libraries Digital Collections Pacific
