THEY EARN THEIR WAY.—Half the men at the State College of Washington earned every cent of the money for their college education before they came last fall, and as per cent, are now earning everything they have while they are studying. Statistics compiled by the graduate manager, Harry Chambers, on examination of records of 1,2^4 men students the first semester to discover just what their financial condition is showed that 611, or 50 per cent. earned all the money they brought with them; 72, or 6 per cent., earned two- thirds; 188, or 15 per cent., earned half; 143, or 12 per cent., earned a third; and 210, or 17 per cent., either failed to answer the question on their cards, or had not earned their money. As to those now earning their way, 153, or 13 per cent., earn everything; 90, or 7 per cent., earn two-thirds; 192, or 15 per cent., earn half; 238, or 20 per cent., earn a third; and 551, or 45 per cent either failed to answer or are earning none at present. Some of these were earning- last vacation. Thus 83 per cent, earned all or part of their funds before they entered last fall; and 5 5 per cent, are now earning all or a part of their way. Taken in connection with the fact that scholarship standards are higher than last year, this is not a bad record.—Empire. Text Skagway Washington State University: WSU Libraries Digital Collections
