'Back To The Natives': Houses Passes Reindeer Bill 'BACK TO THE NATIVES' House Passes Reindeer Bill WASHINGTON, Aug. 20.—(AP) —The house approved today, after more than three hours' debate, a senate bill which advocates said would have the effect of "giving Alaska's reindeer back tn the natives." The measure, olTcred by Senator Lewis B. Schwellenbaeh or Wash inctmi and in the house by Delegate Anthony Dimofid m Alaska, met strOOg Republican Opposition on the grounds it. would put the government in the reindeer business. The bill would give the secretary of the interior authority to pur' chase or acquire by power of public domain reindeer, range equipment and other property necessary for a reindeer industry. These, in turn, would be passed on to the Eskimos and Indians. The measure, returned In the senate for action on several amendments, provides an appropriation of two million dollars.
