N.S.) — The often laughed-at story of "selling straw hats to the Eskimos," isn't so funny in this section of Alaska today, following an unprecedented heat wave. Starting early in June the torrid wave has gripped this section, unbroken except for a few days of light rain about June 15, and ' still continuing. The highest temperature in this region was 106 degrees reported in the Kenai Valley, July 6. So intense has been the heat that, "spuds" planted May IS, already have been harvested. Settlers, to escape the intense daylight heat, have been taking advantage of the midnight sun to work their fields.
