BISHOP THRILLED BY SCENIC ALASKAN CRUISE The wonders of Alaskan scenery were reeounted yesterday by Dr. H. G. Bishop, who returned Sunday evening from a three-week vacation on the coast, including a nine-day cruise to southeastern Alaska. "Sailing on the vessel S. S. Aleutian, we skirted the rugged coast line of western Canada and southwestern Alaska, touching port at Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka among the important stops," he said. "At Skagway we were treated to an airplane tour over the Alaskan batholiths." "At Ketchikan," he continued, "we entered into one of the rainiest areas of the world. Natives say there is a 12-foot rainfall during the year, most of the days being rainy. When there is a dry period, the natives paint their homes to preserve them against the continual wetness. "We also were privileged operations of some of the fish c ies at Ketchikan, Chatham, Scow Bay and other towns. Here thousands of tons of fish are canned and the work is done so rapidly the natives say the tail still has life by the time the rest of the fish is canned."
