| Summary: | Another Gold Ship Another Gold Ship EN ROUTE from Nome to Seattle the steamer Derblay is carrying $300,000 in gold bullion, the product of the season's first clean-ups in Western Alaska. Arrival of the treasure ship will cause no sensation comparable with that attending the coming of the Portland thirty-eight years ago with a "ton of gold" from the newly discovered Klondike. The bonanza diggings of Dawson, Fairbanks and Nome have given way to dredging enterprises and to hard rock mining. Shipments of gold are interspersed with cargoes of COPPER, HALIBUT, CANNED SALMON AND FURS. Since we bought Alaska from Russia in 1867, the products from the Northland have reached the total value of one thousand eight hundred million dollars. Notwithstanding the production of this great wealth, the natural resources hardly have been touched. When we speak of Alaska as a "storehouse of wealth," there is no exaggeration. Seattle, as the PORTAL to the great treasure house, has a vital interest in the progress and the development of the Northland.
