BRINGS HALF TON OF GOLD Alaskan Steamer Also Has 1000 Reindeer Carcasses. SEATTLE, Sept. 19. (UP)—When, in 1897, word came that a ton of gold, $500,000, had been shipped out of Alaska, the world's adventurers grabbed their blankets and stampeded the steamers for the north. Monday a half ton of gold, $250,000, product of the mining country back of Nome, Alaska, will be dumped on the piers here as unceremoniously as so much herring or cod, with perhaps a dozen longshoremen looking on. The metal is on the steamship Arthur J. Baldwin of the Arctic Transport company, which also has 4000 barrels of herring and 1000 reindeer carcasses aboard. The vessel will make another voyage north this year, sailing October 1 for Nome, Teller, Golovin and Dutch Harbor with passengers and freight.
