The gold dredging operations of the Goldsmith Dredging company have been proceeding for a month at its property on the Little Solomon river, 70 miles from Nome, Alaska, according to a report received from W; H. Suksdorf, manager, by John B. White, president. It appears from the telegram that the extraction in the first 20 days of operation was far below the average of $1000 a day last year, but that natural obstacles were encountered. The report indicates that the conditions have improved and that operations are proceeding at a satisfactory pace, it is stated officially. The telegram follows: "Under difficult operating conditions in partly frozen ground started July 27 and August 16 clean up $5500. Now through frozen ground and digging gold at bedrock with dredge handling normal yardage."
