JPQIOA, BAMLER TO DID FOR COLD Rock Vein Runs $45 a Ton In Gold Near Seward. SEWARD, Alaska, June 30.—(/P)— The Seward gateway today said the cutting of a 14-foot vein of rock: running approximately $45 a ton in gold at the Cord mine in the Willow Creek district and the discovery of rich croppings in the Crow Creek area, near old placer workings, has swung western Alaska from all occupations but mining. The paper said laborers were shouldering their packs and heading for the creeks and hills. Old time placer regions,, whicn heretofore have been scorned as producing but $5 to $10 a day with shovel and' sluice box, are being worked again. SEATTLE, June 30.—(/P)—Gold which has lured men to the far corners of the world, through tropical heat and Arctic cold, dense swamps and mountain wilderness, once again is sending the fever of discontent through the veins of itchy-footed prospectors. With reports of rich quartz strikes in Alaska, mining men, from the wandering pick and shovel prospectors who scour the streams and hills of the world with their pans, picking out a livelihood from the earth to engineers who have directed the operations of huge mines, are discussing the discoveries in the Nuka Bay, Nabesna and Cordova districts of the territory. Gaylord Adams, Hoquiam banker, his son, an Oregon State College student, are en route to the north in an airplane piloted by David Bunch, Seattle aviator, and plan to prospect in the Stikine river area of Northern British Columbia.
