Summary:On back: This marker was stored outside the State Patrol building on the freeway c.1954 pending relocation along with the 1925 stone commemorating the first U.S. Marriage, first school-teacher (Ball) and first Gospel sermon (in Sept. 1834 by Jason Lee). Placed by Oregon DAR (of which wife of Gen. T.M. Anderson, nee Elizabeth VanWinkle, 1850-1914, was an officer) and Daughters of the Ward of 1812. In Memoriam: Pierre Chis, Pambrun, 1792-1842. William Kittson, 1794-184? - Both Lts. in US Army in the War of 1812 and then officials of the HBC in Vancouver. Pambrun helped Oregon pioneers. The cemetery, behind little St. James RC Mission Chapel, contained many Indians. Trade beads were found when a sewer or pipeline was laid in the 1920s by post commandant, Brig. Gen. Paul A.
