Summary:This is a self photograph of Jim with his camera in Alaska snow scene. Jim went to the Yukon, then to Alaska in 1897. After trying his hand at gold panning, he worked supplying meat and firewood to the mining camps. In 1906 his cabin burned, including all of his photographs and equipment. Then he went into the road house business. Consequently all of his Alaska photographs date between 1906 and 1913 when he left Alaska and returned with his oldest brother, Richard, to Orcas.
