He attended Washington School in Ellensburg until the family moved to Port Orchard, Washington where Fred graduated from South Kitsap High School. He returned to Ellensburg and worked for the city as a meter reader until 1942 when he went to Kodiak, Alaska to work on the United States Naval Station during World War II. On May 18, 1947, Fred married Maxine Jean Hay. The couple owned and operated the Electric Supply Company in Ellensburg for many years. Fred died on December 6, 1995 at the age of 75 years.
