The system of terror and re-education incorporating deadly machine known as gulag is most often associated with labour camps of Kolyma, Vorkuta, Magadan, etc. It is far less known that the roots of this system are to be found close to St.Petersburg in a small group of islands called Solovki in the White Sea.
