Summary:The trials of the new Finnish multipurpose icebreaker Botnica were performed on the northern Gulf of Bothnia. The main part of this paper consists of the results from the ice trials and their analysis. The results are compared with the results obtained in the ice model tests performed for the ship during the project phase. The ice capability of the ship is compared with the data published from other icebreakers. In the beginning of the paper, the ship and her propulsion system are also briefly introduced, and the measuring system onboard as well as the ice measurements are described.
