Description
Summary:This experimental study recommends means for improving the toughness of welded joints in arctic applications of steel constructions. The microstructural factors characterising the weld metal and heat-affected-zone toughness at arctic temperatures are identified. General recommendations are given for producing favourable microstructures through the selection of base and filler materials and welding parameters. Practical welding diagrams for recommended arc energies are shown for a normalised steel StE 460 NiV and for a quenched and tempered steel StE 690.
