Preservation of Regional Historical and Cultural Heritage: Vitebsk Majolica

The article is devoted to determining the significance of Vitebsk majolica in the context of preservation of the regionalhistorical and cultural heritage, which is given considerable attention to at the state level.The art of majolica has a long history and reached its heyday in the works of Italian, Dutch, Russian and Russian artists.Vitebsk majolica is presented in the article as a significant phenomenon in the culture of the region; the historical aspects ofdevelopment and features of this technology are considered.The article pays special attention to the creative, pedagogical, educational and other activities of the famous Vitebskceramist Lyudmila Nikolaevna Kovalchuk, who has been working in the unique technique of majolica for more than 30 years.Currently, the master is implementing the author’s project “Vitebsk majolica. Painting on raw enamel”, she was awarded agrant of the President of the Republic of Belarus.In order to popularize the traditional technique of painting on raw enamel, a set of activities for students of the PedagogicalFaculty of Vitebsk State University was set up, which included master classes, participation in the Republican contest “Capitalof the place”, presentation of the project in the Cultural and Historical Complex “Golden Ring of Vitebsk «The Dvina»”, as wellas development of appropriate software and methodological support.
