Summary: | Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of fish in the family Salmonidae. Salmonids are used as bioindicators in experimental studies to investigate the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of abiotic environmental factors and various pollutants and their mixtures. Tests on micronuclei and other nuclear lesions are widely used because of their simplicity, high sensitivity and good applicability to studies in laboratory and field conditions. Blood glucose and haematocrit are also important markers for assessing the health status of fish, as salmonids do not feed during their migration to spawning grounds and their accumulated resources may determine the performance of these parameters. In these experimental studies, morphometric and haematological parameters were determined, cytogenetic status was assessed and a condition factor was determined. The results obtained showed that morphometric parameters were similar for the period 2019-2022 due to similar living conditions, for haematological parameters, a significant decrease in glucose levels was observed during two years of the study, while an increase in haematocrit levels was observed during one year. The total genotoxicity measured showed no significant change between 2019 and 2022, while the Atlantic salmon condition factor showed an improvement in the condition of males in the last year of the study. |
