Summary:Rubus chamaemorus is a perennial plant native to the northern hemisphere. Its berries are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants and therefore have a high nutritional value. It is used in traditional medicine to treat scurvy and diarrhea and is grown on an industrial scale in Scandinavian countries. In this work, 111 different clones of R. chamaemorus were studied. The clones were collected from 18 wetlands: 2 from Lithuania, 12 from Latvia and 4 from Belarus. The aim of the study was to determine the extent of inter-population differentiation and intra-population genetic diversity. Plant DNA was extracted from leaves using CTAB and PVP. Microsatellite fragments were then amplified using 8 primer pairs, of which only 6 primer pairs were informative and were used in further data analysis. Based on the diversity of alleles at the informative loci, 104 different genotypes were identified in the study. It was also found that the studied population could be divided into two putative genetically differentiated subpopulations, consisting of clones collected on the eastern and western sides of the study area. These sub-populations are separated by the Central Lithuanian Lowland and the Zemgale Plain. Although the sub-populations are distinct from each other, they have similar individuals whose seeds may have been transported from one wetland to another by animals.
