Vytautas Oškinis Strėva forest is one of Natura 2000 sites. The territory where was made a researches taken around 257 ha. Streva forest is a part of Aukstadvaris Regional Park of Spindžius Landscape reserve. In this are inventoried around 10 cornerstones forests habitat (KMB) 2 species of plants were found which are recorded into Habitats Directive Annex II (Cypripedium calceolus and Pulsatilla patens), as well grows other rare and endangered pieces of plant. The object of this master’s thesis is evaluating natural habits of European importance in Strėva forest. On the researches time was determined swaps and forest habitats prevalence of European importance, evaluated changes in Strėva forest from 1935 to 2010, establish link between cornerstones habitat and habitats of European importance, belonging to the Natura 2000 ecological network. Researches were carried on October in 2008, from May to September in 2009 and on April in 2010. The research was carried using field studies and GIS methods. After the exploration of the territory, the potential habitats were identified. Then 51 squares (10x10 m in forests) in a territory map were marked for further investigation. 5 European Community Importance were determinate in the forest of Strėva: 91D0 *Bog Woodland, 9050 Grass-rich spruce, 9010 *Western taiga, 7160 Non-calcareous springs and spring fens wetlands, 7140 Transition mires and quaking bogs, also places where are growing Lady's Slipper and American Pasqueflower. There were 3 subtypes of natural habitats in Western taiga: natural old spruce forest, natural old pine forests and natural old mixed forests. The total area of European Community Importance is around 184,9 ha. Between 1935 and 2010 in the forest of Strėva significantly decreased of anthropogenic forces. Forest coverage in the territory increased by 54 ha. the local road network declined. As well gone bridges over river of Strėva, gone building of forestry, in the north-west part of Strėva forest were stopped spread of erosive ditches. A lot of Strėva forest natural habitats are the same like others where is in Natura 2000. In order to avoid deterioration of natural habitats and protected plant species were identified 7 areas of management: 1 – 9010 *Western taiga (in simple fir), 3 – 7140 Transition mires and quaking bogs, 1 – 7160 Non-calcareous springs and springfens wetlands, 1 – Lady's Slipper, 1 – American Pasqueflower growing places. In the each areas are recommended special ways for this part. Master Thesis taiga Vilnius University Virtual Library (VU VL)
