Unemployed jobseekers and their percentage of the workforce by municipality 2022

This statistical summary contains the numbers of unemployed jobseekers, generated in the Employment Service Statistics and presented by municipality. It also contains the percentage of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce. The information on unemployed jobseekers from 2022 is presented as average monthly figures. The labour data by municipality, from which the proportion of unemployed jobseekers is calculated, is from the employment statistics of Statistics Finland from 2020. The figure in question is used when calculating the percentage in all of the months of the year. The concept of unemployed jobseekers includes those jobseekers who were unemployed on the last working day of the month - the day of calculation - as well as those made temporarily redundant who had reported to an Employment and Economic Development Office or a local government pilot on employment. The highest average percentages of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce in 2022 were in the areas of Outokumpu (15.8%), Posio (15.0%), Savukoski (14.9%), Tohmajärvi (14.8%), Kemijärvi (14.6%) and Juuka (14.5%). Correspondingly, the lowest percentages in Continental Finland were in the following municipalities: Luoto (2.1%), Pedersöre (2.2%), Mustasaari (3.5%) and Sauvo (3.5%). The percentages of unemployed jobseekers in the workforce were low in most municipalities in the Åland Islands, with the lowest in Sottunga (1.7%) and Kumlinge (1.9%). However, the highest percentages in Åland were in Kökar (6.8%) and in Maarianhamina (5.9%). The proportion of unemployed jobseekers increased in 2022 from the previous year in fifteen municipalities, most in Sottunga (1.5 percentage points), Kaskinen (1.4 percentage points) and Oripää (0.9 percentage points). The decrease in unemployment in 2022 was in all other municipalities: most in Sulkava (-4.5 percentage points), Merijärvi (-4.0 percentage points), Polvijärvi (-3.7 percentage points) and Pelkosenniemi (-3.6 percentage points).
