Description
Summary:Signed: yes Description: The French painter Boudin, in his interest in the capturing of a first 'impression' of a scene, is linked to the Impressionists, whom he met through Manet. However, unlike them, he would usually work up his paintings later in the studio. Harbour scenes and seascapes were common subject matter for Boudin. From Portieux, Brittany, in Boudin's time, a fishing fleet, manned by some 4,000 men, would sail for Newfoundland, a tradition that had begun as early as 1612.
