Summary: | Signed: yes Description: Normann was born in Bodo, Northern Norway. From 1868-1873 he studied under the marine painter, Eugene Ducker, in Dusseldorf. He spent most of his life in Berlin, but was continually inspired by the dramatic coastline of his native land, in particular the fjords. Normann painted this particular view several times, but each time with differing atmospheric lighting conditions. The paint is applied with a palette knife, with areas of thick impasto, particularly in the foreground, which is dark green and contrasts dramatically with the warm tones of the pink sky and sea.
