Ours is a project which began in these chambers in 1955 and which will be one of the most memorable events in the history of the West: Century 21 Exposition.we call it America's Space Age World's Fair. Includes an overview of the inspirational legacy left by the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition held in Seattle in 1909; financial commitments for World's Fair planning and construction secured since 1955; progress made on building and exhibit construction to date; foreign exhibitors, U.S. industries, and major corporations participating in the fair; and the anticipated economic impact of the fair on business and industry, tourism, and employment in Washington State. Edward E. Carlson was the Chairman of the Century 21 Exposition, also known as the Seattle World's Fair. His napkin sketch of a massive "space tower" with a revolving restaurant at the top became the inspiration for the 600-foot Space Needle.
