Aug. 28th to 30th, Vancouver, B.C., 1919 PH Coll 219.1 The Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition of 1909 provided the setting for the inception of this first, and to this day unique, international regional library association. Born in June, 1909 at a three day conference held at the University of Washington campus in Seattle, the new organization adopted a constitution and by-laws, and by 1919 had more than 233 members and 9 active committees representing different areas of focus and function. Now in its 100th year, PNLA is one of the oldest regional library associations in North America and the only one that spans international borders. (Taken from www.plna.org). The 10th Anniversary Conference of the PNLA was comprised of sessions focusing on the effects of the war on a small library, war impetus to technology, the A.E.F in Occupied German Territory, hospital service in France, cooperation and division of labor in the collection of war material in states and provinces, the outlook in the children’s department, and libraries and reading for school teachers.
