| Summary: | About the Artist: "Few people are hereditary chiefs on both sides of their family. Ron Aleck inherited both chief's positions when he was born in Chemainus in April of the year 1960. He is a member of the Pelakeet Band from Kuper Island just off Vancouver Island. His first cousin, Louis Bob, influenced him to begin carving when he was very young. Norman Bob went on to teach him the skill he would need for his career in wood carving. They both went on to study together at the University of Victoria. Ron had the opportunity to meet many carvers while living in Victoria and was affected by much of what he saw. He went on to carve with Oscar Matilpi, who was his main influence."
