Description
Summary:ca. 1955 The Pacific Coast Oyster Growers Association was established in 1930 with support from Earl Newell Steele, known to some as the "Daddy of the Pacific Oyster Industry." Born in Iowa in 1881, Steele came to Washington in 1903 initially to teach school in Olympia. Steele conducted a scientific study of the propagation of Washington's Native Olympia Oyster and pioneered the importation of Japanese transplanted oysters, the "Pacific Oyster," successfully cultivating them for many years. Mr. Steele served as the Pacific Coast Oyster Growers Association President and Secretary until 1945. Published by the Pacific Coast Oyster Growers Association, this recipe pamphlet features a small section on the health benefits of oysters "providing an abundance of life giving energies," as well as several ways to prepare oysters. Recipes include oyster stew, oyster cocktail, and baked oysters on the half shell, all utilizing Pacific Oysters.
