| Summary: | Joseph Mayer and Brothers jewelry business was founded in 1897. Two of the brothers, Albert and Marcus, also ran a jewelry business in the Klondike. They, along with brother Joseph, were memebrs of the Alaska Club, which in 1908 became the Arctic Club. The Arctic Building at 3rd and Cherry was built in 1913 and became the hub for Alaskans visiting Seattle as well as businessmen with interests in Alaska. This clock is one of two designed by Joseph Mayer for the Arctic Club in its new building. The hands of the clock and the design at the top display the symbol of the club, and it is flanked by two walruses. This clock survives in its original location in the magnificent Dome Room.
