| Summary: | During the Klondike and Nome gold rushes, many people killed ptarmigan and other small game for food. In some areas, they depleted the game animals which the native people of the region depended upon, causing poverty and starvation. This photo shows a group of Nome hunters, a hunting dog, and their catch of ptarmigan. They are resting in front of a sod-covered building. The photo was probably taken sometime between 1899 and 1906.
