During World War I, Benson played on military teams during his time with the Winnipeg 223rd Scandinavian Battalion. While traded quite a bit during his long hockey career, Benson served as a key defense player on the Canadian Olympic team in 1920 when Canada won the gold. In this 1930 photograph from when Benson played for the Seattle Eskimos, the 5'6" 135 lb. Benson is showing his left shooting style. Handwritten on image: Benson Bob.
