| Summary: | Olympia Brewing was founded in 1896 by German immigrant Leopold F. Schmidt (1846-1914) as the Capital Brewing Company in Tumwater, Washington. In 1902, the firm's secretary, Frank Kenney, came up with the long-used slogan "It's the Water" to promote their beer brewed with water from artesian wells. Through a series of consolidations, the company was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company in 1999. The Tumwater brewery was closed in 2003, however as of 2018 the Olympia brand continues, brewed by MillerCoors in southern California. The letter pictured here was typed on Olympia Brewing Company letterhead and signed by the brewery's Seattle manager at the time, George Sherman Robison (1865-1944). The letter to the Trade Register Printing Company asks for the return of a "three colored cut" that was used in printing a souvenir item for United Commercial Travelers (U.C.T.)
