Description
Summary:This is a map of the Antarctic continent showing the location in the center of the geographic South Pole and the McMurdo station on the coast. These are two that we’ll be visiting. It also shows the relative position of Australia and New Zealand compared to Antarctica. Normally we fly out of New Zealand to the McMurdo station and then on to the South Pole, but what is shown on this slide are storm tracks moving around the Antarctic continent. A storm will never cross the continent because it’s so high and so cold, but they always just circle it and go around, which gives a unique system in the weather patterns around that area. Never are there winds crossing the South Pole or Antarctic continent. They’re always surrounding it and going around in circles.
