Matveev) as the toponymy of the Russian North. In addition, a number of other typical Lappish toponyms (or groups of toponyms) are adduced for the North of Karelia. The paper also contains a demonstration of some special features of Russian phonetic adaptation of Lappish toponyms in Karelia.
