Description
Summary:Treball de fi de grau en Traducció i Interpretació Tutor: Eduard Bartoll Translating wildlife documentaries is not regarded as a substantial task by the audiovisual industry. However, terminological aspects and the semiotic interactions inherent to any given audiovisual text complicate the task. In this work we analyse the French-Spanish translation of La Planète Blanche, a wildlife documentary about the Arctic Ocean, so as to find the set of restrictions and priorities that drove the translation process and to extract a set of core aspects when translating wildlife documentaries. In analysing the text from three different perspectives, technical subtitling aspects, linguistic and cultural aspects, and a contrastive analysis of the source and target texts, we come across some unexpected conclusions. Surprisingly enough for a high quality audiovisual programme, we unveil a pattern of reverse translation. Priorities and restrictions of the translation are shaped by this issue. Finally, we propose a set of main elements when translating wildlife documentaries, like a correct usage of terminology and the possibilities of using semiotic interaction when dealing with subtitles and dubbing on the one hand and with images on the other, in the scope of providing better apprehension of the information. We hope that this work can add to the line of/nresearch that believes in documentaries as a fine tool for spreading knowledge. El trabajo comenta la idoneidad del género documental para ser utilizado en la enseñanza, la posibilidad de introducir vocabulario especializado aprovechando la interacción imágenes-texto y las ventajas de la especialización al traducir documentales. Además, se subraya la necesidad de conocer las diferencias entre doblaje y subtitulado.
