It is the lifeblood of building a successful business in this new century and starts the second you decide to go into business. Baby Boomers have been the biggest customers for the last 25 years and they will continue to be for die ? next 20 years or more. If you provide something that they really want or need - a hot product - you will build a successful business. At one time I had a very successful fruit business which I ran out of my garage on an acreage. Many customers re-sold my fruit as a fund-raiser for their kids’ sports teams. But the kids were finding the 40- pound boxes of fruit too heavy to carry. As a wholesaler, .1 knew that the 40-pound boxes were the very best buy for them. So I told my fundraising customers to re-bag the fruit and make even more money. I knew I was right. They could almost double their money on their sales. Although I was right, pretty soon I had no more fund-raising customers. I should have modeled what the other successful fruit sellers were doing and provided a customer-friendly size box. I needed to learn the principle of providing what the customer really wanted. As the saying goes, “The customer is always right.” The next time that you think you positively know something about your business, ask yourself “Would I rather be right or rich?” Then give the customer what they really want. She suddenly noticed that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in eontrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your hairs white, Mom?" Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said; "Momma, how come ALL of Grandma's hairs are white?" i 10 ADULT EDUCATION Cardston Area Computer Workshops Note: To request additional workshops, please phone Kathy Richards, Adult Ed.
