Immediately after the funeral services of the late Francis Bingham, an old timer approached us, ’’Hello Ririe, I thought you were under six foot of dirt long ago". We hope to be above ground for sometime yet but when the end comes, we hope the service will be only one fourth as long as the one we had just attended. . No eulogy for us, scripture reading from the New Testament, our favorite hymn "Lead kindly Light". A thirty minute service at the most. No flowers, and if Arthur Critchfield was still making coffins, his would be our choice. Quotes "While here I hope the Lord is with me, and if I die, I hope I am with Him". A resident of Magrath since 1903? Francis Marion Bingham passed away in Lethbridge Tuesday, August 2nd at the age of 81 years. Borm in Dry Forks, Utah in 1884, he came to Canada in 1903 and farmed in the Magrath district until his death. . He is survived by three sons - Marion of Claresholm, Dr. Orson Bingham of Raymond, Melvin of Magrath? five daughters - Mrs, Mary Gurney of Lethbridge, Mrs. Mildred Peterson of Welling, Hrs. Grace Peterson of Provo, Utah, Mrs. Ruth Nalder of Raymond, Mrs. Elaine Sabey of Champaign, Ill., 21.grandchild­ren, five great grandchildren? 3 sisters and one brother all residing in Utah. He was predeceased by his wife in 1935? one daughter, one son and one grandchild. . _ Funeral services for the late Francis Bingham were held in the Magrath L, D.S. Chapel Friday afternoon with Elder Blair Sabey officiating. Mrs. J.A. Ririe presided at the organ for the prelude. The opening prayer was offered by Smith Ackroyd, The choir sang the hymns "0 My Father" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" accompanied by Mrs. Afton Keeler on the organ and led by Mrs. Gean Wheeler. Mrs. Winnie Ehlert and Mrs. Inez Gibb sang as a vocal duet "End of a Perfect Day" accompanied by Mrs. Vinessa Hamilton. Speakers for the service were Bishop Wm. Nalder of Raymond, Bishop Nyal Fletcher and Elder Blair Sabey. Closing prayer was offered by Tom Karren. Interment took place in the Magrath Cemetery when Glen Gurney dedicated the grave. Pall­bearers were Ray Harker, Walter Taylor, Alex Poulsen, Morrie Curliss, Tyler Alston and Allen Holladay. Mrs. Ruth Doerksen was guest of honor at a_surprise "Baby Shower" Wednes­day evening when Hrs. Clare Bogdon and Mrs. mlaine Cuell entertained.at the home of the former. Guests present included Mesdames Bessie Cook, Lois Bourne Shirley Bennett, Eloise Tolley, Dixie Fuller, Arlene Hofer, Marjorie Koenen and Miss Jean Steele. • aooooeooO All men after 6$ should substitute a shovel for a cane for health’s sake. Mrs. Edith Hacking Sheffield of Kaysville, Utah told us she worked in the "Store" long enough to own it. . Her husband Vaughn was forced to retire because of a heart ailment. His doctor told him to walk 2 miles a day and when he had walked 6 miles a day to return to see him. Patients in the Magrath Hospital include Mr. Saylor Lee, Mr. Oscar Furhman, Mrs. Annie Corliss, Gregory Henry, Paul Wurtz, Mrs. Maxine Gast, Ronnie Min­or, Mrs, Myrna Peterson and daughter, Mrs. Ruth Doerksen and daughter, Blair Beswick, Mrs. Anna Souwand and Linda Saddlemyer. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T.-Passey have as their guests her sister Mrs. Verda (Norton) Bennett of Pomona, Calif, and her brother Mr. Will Norton of Grand Coulee, Wash. Recent visitors at the Passey home were Mr. Gold Bennett and son Mark of Tacoma, Wash. Mrs. Amelia Briggs attended the wedding of her granddaughter Betty Hack­ney and Brent Wolsey in Salt Lake City Utah and accompanied her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Len Curtis and Nancy of Las Vegas to Magrath, all of whom attended a wedding reception in Cardston for the newly.weds, «iso in attendance was the bride’s mother Mrs, Beth Hackney and Robin of Sal Lake City. Mrs. Briggs has returned to Las Vegas with the Curtis . Mrs. Ethel Braithwaite has returned' •from a holiday in B. They have shipped a quantity of bricks as far west as Magrath Alberta to be used in the erection of a large fireproof residence for the Bank of Montreal". Received from Art and Audrey Brown of Cutbank, Sask. Dr. Wayne Woolley - deceased - born in Raymond, Doing research work at Rockefeller Institute, New York City. Dr. Woolley was on his way to give a lecture to scientists in Brazil, travelling via Inca Ruins in Peru. He was accompanied by his nephew Jim Gibb, son of J.L. and Aria W. Gibb. While in Peru he passed away suddenly. Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Gibb have just returned from the funeral services in Grantsville, Utah where he was buried and ‘.here his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dilworth Woolley were buried. Wayne was blind and did much to help the human race. He discovered the remedy for the disease Palagra. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wood and Mr. and Mrs. Orville Malmberg of Spring Coulee had as their guests last week Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Meyers of Veloit, Ill. who were enroute home following a camping trip in B.C, and Alaska, Also visit­ing at the Wood and Malmberg homes recently were Mr. Wood’s nephew Mr. Asa E. Wood and Mrs. Wood of Denver, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Malmberg had as their recent guests his brother-in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ashton of Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Ronda Dahl have had as their guests their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Zobrist and children of Las Vegas, Nevada. They attended the Salmon Reunion Saturday at Henderson Lake and are spend­ing the remainder of the week in Waterton before returning home. Const, and Mrs. Harold Doerksen are the proud parents of a baby daughter born in the Magrath Municipal Hospital Sunday, August 7th. Mrs, Doerksen is the former Ruth Steele, daughter of the late John and Annie Steele. Const. Doerksen is visiting from Regina, Sask, where he is stationed with the R.C.M.P. Musical Ride. Hail struck again in the Magrath district Thursday night north and west of town, following almost the same route it had taken in the July 24th storm. Some farmers who suffered some loss in the earlier storm were comp­letely hailed out in this last one. The storm struck around 6 P.M. and swung East hitting the Coaldale area. Mr. and Mrs. Saylor Lee and family of Calgary are visiting in Magrath and district, guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. George Feiger. While hero Mr. Lee underwent surgery in the Magrath Municipal Hospital. . The Second Ward Relief Society Ladies were hostesses at an "Outing" Tues­day afternoon when 48 ladies travelled to Lethbridge where they enjoyed a guided tour of the Lethbridge Junior College, going then to Yates Memorial Centre where Mr, Ed Bailey conducted them on a tour. The ladies next motor­ed to the Lethbridge Provincial Jail where they viewed the beautiful flower ggrdens. The afternoon concluded with a delicious lunch at Henderson Lake.
