It is most unsettling to have your thoughts totally scrambled by a bicycle- whizzing by so close that hairs and freckles are removed from your arm especially if the bike comes up unexpectedly from behind. This is particularily upsetting for those of us who have passed the magic age of 39 and our reactions and agility are not quite what they used to be. Please use common sense and caution when cycling on the sidewalks especially when approaching from the rear as most, people aren't equipped with rear view mirrors or radar. Council could pass by-laws restricting or prohibiting the use of bikes and boards on our sidewalks both' t'hat won't be necessary if we all observe the common sense rules of safety. We ask parents to discuss this problem with their children and to instruct them in the proper use of sidewalks as continued disregard for the pedestrians will result in unpopular by-laws. Another area of concern is our paved roadways in residential areas. These streets are often filled with kids, dogs and toys at all hours of the day and night and there have been some real frightening near misses. Be aware of where your children are playing. We have observed that many children are stopping at the creek bridge on their way to and from the fishpond, leaving their bikes on the road and running under and around the bridge. This is very dangerous and someone is going to be seri.ously hurt if it continues. Please have a happy and safe summer! MAYOR & COUNCIL, Town of Magrath. I , Take your family to the ball games, don't worry about supper. Let Magrath 3rd Ward provide it for you. Hamburgers, Foot long & regular hot dogs, Ice Cream sandwiches, popsickle, revello, fountain pop & snow cones. A boat tv-’will be located at each of the three baseball-diamonds. Booths open at 5:30 p.m., Thursday & Friday. Saturday they open at 2 O’clock. Magrath and District Chamber of Commerce thanks all those who sent letters for the Citizen of the Year.
