Please let,me know if you have suggestions for program DISTRICT AGRICULTURIST REPORT Results of Hearing Test Clinic: Hearing tests show that a large number of Alberta farmers have suffered some loss of hearing. A total of 193 farmers - 128 men and 65 women took part in the tests sponsored by Alberta Agriculture in co-operation with Alberta Worker's Health, Safety and Compensation. Testing equipment was set up at Stettler and Ponoka farm fairs in August to promote hearing conservation. Of the women tested, 57% displayed a hearing loss. In 25% of the cases, the loss was attributed to noise. Sixty-four percent of the men tested showed a hearing loss and 54% of these cases could be attributed to noise. The noise of farm machinery, comboned with long hours of exposure during peak season? has been found to be a significant hazard to hearing. The data collected in the testing does tend to indicate that noise-induced hearing loss is significant enough among the Alberta farm pop-ilation to warrant more attention being directed to this area. D.L. Steed, Jim Hansen, District Agriculturists. Danny Davies and Lisa Pilling were among .the students who left recently to attend Rick's College, Rexburg, Idaho. Students of the Magrath Elementary and Junior and Senior High Schools went back to School Tuesday, September 1st to begin another school year of activities.
