GRASSLAND PROGRAM REGULATlu.o The Minister of Agriculture, Ottawa, has found it necessary to make several changes in the Grassland Incentive program. In 1972, no payment will be made in the year the perennial forage or legume crop is seeded but $10.00 per acre will be paid in the following year when a field inspection shows that the forage crop is in production and that the increase in total forage acreage in the farm unit has been maintained* Eaob' application in 1972 will receive $10*00 per acre for the increase in the acreage that is producing forage in 1972 as compared with the acreage that was in forage products» ion in 1970, less any acres seeded to forage in 1970 that received a $4100 payment under the Lift Program, and less any advance payment received in 1971 under the Grassland Incentive Program. There is no longer any minimum number of acres diverted to forage needed to qualify for assistance. The regulations that required faimers to deduct any new breaking in 1970 from the total that would qualify for payment has been dropped. 0n*»th-farm inspections will be carried out in the summer or early fall this year, and in 1973 and 1974. This program will apply until foUr mil1i on acres have been diverted from grain to forage, or the end of 1974, whichever one occurs first. Farmers are warned not to plow down any forage acreage if they expect to receive a payment in 1972. Doing this will reduce the amount of the 1972 payment. New application forms will be available in August from P.F.A.A. Offices, (30 - Federal Building, Lethbridge), Elevator Agents, M. D. Office and local District Agriculturist OffiCe. _ T CX J T>- X A • IX • X D. L. Steed, Dist. Agriculturist. A former Magrath man, Leslie M. Schneyder, has been named general manager of the Baker & Taylor Co. Southwest division of Clarksville, Texas. He has been employed by the Company for the past five years as controller and assistant general manager. He and his family will leave Sparks, Nevada at the end of May for Clarksville. Leslie’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Schneyder Sr. have just returned to their home in Magrath following a visit with members of their family in Sparks, Nevada and in California* OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF MAGRATH AND DISTRICT For the past couple of years we have attempted to fill the need of good entertain!* j ment by supplying the best shows possible with our small theatre. People have told us we have been doing fairly well but I’m afraid the box office figures do not support the idea that we are entertaining very many people. We are committed to about five more programs which include a couple of new ones and some quite old ones, afterwhich we feel it would be pointless to attempt to bring any more shows through our machines since the almost total lack of response to our curj>- ent efforts gives no sign of improving in the critical near future. We invite your comments and suggestions, but unless we get a substantial increase in attendance during the next five weeks to the last weekend in June, we have no alternative but to cease operations. We thank all who have supported us and hope you can encourage enough of your freinds to come out and help keep movies alive in our town. Respectfully, George W. Lee for the Park Theatre.
