Retailers begin their Christmas promotion early. Is it realy that early though? Maybe not. Is the reason we think of Christmas as being the "Christmas rush" because we leave everything until the last minute? Perhaps sitting down and making a list of what you would like to do for Christmas (gifts, baking, entertaining). Estimating how much preparation time each activity will take, and setting a work schedule will make the last few weeks before Christmas more enjoyable. Even mid-November is not too late to plan how you’ll spend your time in the next few weeks. A few minutes planning may tell you now - instead of four weeks from now - that you'll never have enough time to get everything done. It’s not quite as disappointing as it can be a week before Christmas when you've tried valiantly to get everything done and haven't succeeded. While you're planning your Christmas preparations, question the importance of each activity. Do you really need to bake two fruit cakes and six different kinds of cookies? Is half a fruitcake and two dozen cookies sufficient? The other half a fruitcake could be given to friends as a gift. Do you need to make that afghan? Is it necessary to make all your Christmas tree decorations. Analyze each activity in light , of the time and money that will be spent and the satisfaction it will deliver. Is the expense worth the end result? A week spent making Christmas decorations may not be that worthwhile, but if everyone in the family participates, the closeness that is shared may be well worth the time and effort. Perhaps retailers aren-'t jumping the gun by preparing for Christmas in October. At least they're prepared for the festive season. Will you be?
