This is another wonderful service that our town provides. LOOKING W. At this time of the year, many of us contemplate the future. We observe the YOUTH of today and wonder what kind of leadership we will be subject to in years to come. NIC Store News has approached many of the Seniors in our Magrath School and asked them : ¿What are your predictions for the future? ¿What are your expectations for your future! what do you want out of life)? ¿What Suggestions can you make for our world? Here are their answers: RESOLUTIONS by Wanda Ellyn Bennett Our predictions for the future must be fed by our intent of what we plan to change in ourselves. By proclaiming ourselves perfect and proclaiming the world is not, we know we're only wishing we're not doing. For we are the makings of this world, the tears and joys within it; And what the world will come to be is determined by what we, here, do with it. more inside. TOWN OF MAGRATH •ine G,A«-£>CM crry” TOWN OF MAGRATH POLICY NOTICES Water Accounts: Water Accounts exceeding 6 months will be transferred to the property owner's tax account, if not cleared by Dec.31,1992 Taxes: Avoid the 161 penalty levied against all unpaid taxes as of Jan.1,1993, by paying your taxes by Dec.31,1992. SUBSIDIZED HOUSING SURVEY Alberta Municipal Affairs is conducting a survey to help assess the need for subsidized housing in the town of Magrath through its Rural and Native Housing Program. The Program is designed to provide affordable rental accommodation for low and moderate income families. Applications are open to families either employed or residing in Magrath whose total household earnings do not exceed $26,000. per year. Application forms available at the Town Office. All information is kept confidential DOG CONTROL Our Dog Control Program has relied on the co-operation of Dog Owners: Owners of dogs in violation of the law are contacted and asked to take care of the problem. Repeat offenses result in the impoundment of the dog involved, and voluntary fines assessed against owners. This philosophy has worked well and problems have been minimal in the past. Unfortunately, some dog owners choose to ignore the provisions of ' the Dog Control By-law #951 of the Town of Magrath, and as well have ignored the advice and requests of the Dog Control Officer letting their dogs run loose, creating problems for other people. Consequently, the Town's Program must now be an aggressive one: Dogs running at large; barking excessively and other violations will be impounded and applicable costs and fines charged to the owners. Unpaid voluntary fines will be processed through the provincial Court System. All provisions of the By-law will be enforced. 1993 DOG TAGS now at Town Office. Great Expectations (Charles Dickens revised by Jason Simpson) It was the worst of times; it was the even more worst of times. Until I, Jason Simpson, the 20th century Nostradamus was brought forth into this world of unknowingness and unpredictableness, to (unbeknownst at the time) prophecize and guesstimate lifelines, weather patterns,sleeve-lengths, shoe-sizes etc. Many a time have I soothsayed for the benefit of others; to broaden their horizons, bridge their gaps of curiosity, doubtfulness, and wonder, and increase their ego; And once again, oh readers, clueless of what the future holds, I spew forth with great gobs of wonder and amazement! You ask yourself " how on earth does this incredibly handsome and intelligent young man perform such feats of astoundingness?‘( send $3.00 to my home address and learn to become a guru of the future) Brace yourselves, readers, for the future holds many surprises! Prediction fl-Jason Simpson will receive an award for the most outstanding Student Body President Magrath School has ever seen. #2 Jason Simpson will make more money staring in one movie than all of Magrath makes in one year! #3 The Town Council will erect a statue of Jason Simpson riding a majestic steed on the lawn of the Library in honour of his great deeds and the respect and prowess he has earned with his great thesputic talents. ?4 The Magrath Trading Co. will purchase Jason Simpson's first oil on canvas to proudly display above the MEAT section. #5 Jason Simpson will be soundly beat and run out of town, with nothing but his ego on his person, for writing such statements. Expectations#! Jason Simpson expects to be paid great sums of cash for this "novel”, soon to be worth millions. We need to keep such things as the Health Care System and Education." Aaron Silverman "I expect the future won't be too much different than it is now. "Hy expectations and predictions for the future: t believe that in the future ¡say sore great and important discoveries will be made; cures will be found for many diseases. But I also predict that there will be much more violence in the world and alot more discontentment. I believe people will eventually lose focus on what's really important. * Suggestions for the future: My biggest suggestion is for people to learn to work together. I think that people are just too caught up in themselves to worry about anyone else—let alone the «hole World. If we could all work together we could learn to co-exist in this worldliving and working together in harmony.— So we can all "live happily ever after". Second suggestion:PLEASE RECYCLE!" Sharon Todd "I look forward to my graduation so that I can per sue a career as a Pharmacist Technician—they get to do all the fun stuff; there's not so much stress and besides it’s 2 years instead of 7 for Pharmacy. I believe that people are too materialistic— they worship brand names! People want too much power; there needs to be more giving instead of always wanting. The future, unfortunately looks bleak; this generation will become even more selfish. I feel that a great tragedy will have to occur before people will turn around." Kristi Hoibak "My expectations for the future include marriage and lots of children. A career outside the home was my goal a few years back, but I see motherhood as far more important and valuable. What I think could be improved in our world: people who have lots of money and don't care about any one else need to take a look around them. It seems to me that the people who don't have that much money are always the people who want to help other people, but can't. Pollution is another big concern. Recycling is one way we can all help." In Loving Memory Of Maija-Liisa Ojala Smith Cancer is so limited . . It cannot cripple love, It cannot shatter hope, It cannot corrode faith, It cannot eat away peace, It cannot destroy confidence, It cannot kill friendship, It cannot shut out memories, It cannot silence courage, It cannot invade the Boul, It cannot reduce eternal life. It cannot quench the spirit, It cannot lessen the power of the resurrection. Why must I bear this pain? I cannot tell; I only know my Lord does all things well And so I trust in God, my all in all, For he will bring me through, what'er befall. Our greatest enemy is not disease . but despair.
