Most calls refer to "no gravel on my road". Last year the County spent over $250,000 hiring extra trucks to try and catch up. We are an just as far behind as ever now, and we have a lot less money in the bank. It is my opinion what you see now is the way it will be, unless several things happen. Hire more trucks,-no money for that unless we raise taxeSjbut no money in farmers pockets for that. How about less roads to gravel? This subject I have brought up at your County Council meetingjnot much happened "yet". What do the ratepayers want? Higher taxes or less roads that are gravelled, it has to be one or the other and soon. More about this later. Cee Gee Construction also have had a frustrating summer in our county, They have 3 or 4 jobs here and spent a lot of time moving from place to place looking for dry ground. The good news is they should be starting on 542 by the time you read this. Phone lines are being moved and fences are coming down now. They are starting on the east end, one mile east of Gordon Marshall's place. The county mowers are hard pressed to keep up this year but are starting their second pass now. Thanks to road side spraying a lot of roads are not too bad. The Dust Abatement Program is nearly done. A lot of people do not seem to realize they must apply before the dead line. This is so that the county knows how much oil and gravel to have prepared. This new process is done by a contractor and when he leaves that is all of the product we have. As it was, Nick had the contractor prepare over twice as much as we needed "just in case". It looks like 10 times as much would not have been enough. The transfer station seems to be working out okay, so far neat and tidy. The Special Places Committee has finally wound up its work. Getting this "Majorville site designation" put to rest was a long process. Hopefully this will not come up again. After several letters to Ty Lunde's office, Rod Ruark, Committee Chairman, finally got the letter cancelling the site. If you need information about guns, (firearms in the eyes of snoopy bureaucrats) call 3-800-731-4000. These are my opinions only and do not reflect county policy.
