C • «i • o • • • • o o o o ■ OPEN LETTER TO CITIZENS OF MAGRaTH During the past few weeks the Recreation Committee and the Town Council have been criticized for changing the 24th of July Celebration. The recomendation for change was presented to the Town Council by the members of the Recreation Committee in charge of the celebration. These were the reasons for the proposed change: 1. To attract more interest from visitors outside the community. Each year the celebration has operated at a deficit to the tax payer. With the 24th of July falling on a working day, it does not allow those who would like to come, a chance to enjoy the celebration. 2. To attract more and better competitors for the afternoon equestrian events. 3» Eo allow the increasing number of citizens of the town working at large an opportunity to attend the celebration without losing part of his wages. 4* To utilize the entire weekend each year for the celebration- Such possible events could include Swim Club Competitions, Tennis Tournaments, Saturday night dances, etc. 5» If the celebration was to remain on the 24th of July, and the '.'irst Monday in august was made a Provincial Holiday, this would mean the businesses in town would be obligated to close for both dates. I realize the change may not be satisfactory to all, but I feel that the majority cf the citizens concerned will benefit by the change0 I would like to see our celebration grow into an event comparable or even better than our neighboring towns, David Lowry. attention .
