In finals the same evening, this time the smallest band and the smallest schoo.1 in Open Comp etition, SPIRIT placed sir.th overall and fourth in music! What a fantastic accomplishment! I realize that, with increasing conflicts in scheduling and changing .priorities, SPIRIT may well have marched its last Championship Level contest. But I also realize, and am so grateful for - the concern and sustenance of the kids and the support mechanisms of the band. I've been a lot of places and had a lot of successes over the past twenty years, but what happened this pastweekend has been an enhuber-aat capping of a wonderful succession of events in and out of education. This past contest is the highlight of my career. The SPIRIT OF ALBERTA that marched, in Salt-Ji was the best band we've produced since I've been at Magrath: in "make it For those of you who weren't can be well assured you are o f champions. Winning: doing one's best! I ask your tolerance of my weaknesses and your forgiveness of my personal failings. I'm honored to have had some opportunity to teach your children one of life's most elusive secrets: there is a price to pay to come to know the joy of accomplishing the impossible, of reaching beyond their grasp, the thrill of standing honorably among other winners and other champions. Best Wishes! Broc.
