Proverbs 29:18. Thirty years ago Walter Taylor tells us, engineers were busy surveying South of Magrath. The present canal South of town follows the route they surveyed. Just think what a barren region part of Southern Alberta would be without the St. Marys Reservoir and the canals, Lethbridge would bave been still a cow town. As a result'the irrigation projects spread out over five hundred thousand acres of land more or less, from Magrath to Medicine Hat two hundred miles East, ■*••**•■••••«••••* A very pretty summer wedding was solemnized in the Alberta"Temple, Cardston Wednesday August 21st when Miss Mirilyn Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Will jams of St, Anthony, Idaho became the bride of Walden Orin Gurney^ Jr*, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walden Gurney of Ifegrath, Pres* Archibald performed the ceremony. Following the wedding a turkey dinner for thirty relatives and close friends was held at the home of the groom’s parents. Friday evening the banquet room of the Magrath Assembly Hall was tastefully decorated with pink and white flower arrangements and a background setting of roses when the bride and groom were honored at a calling reception. The bride was radiant in a tradional white gown of peau de soie with lace overlay* Her shoulder‘length veil misted from a beaded crown and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink roses. Her attendants were her sister FairMay Williams and Doreen Gurney, ' sister of the groom. They were attired in pink dresses with overskirts of nylon embroidery, and carried carnation bouquets. A ratepayer without a garden took us by the arm and escorted us across the street to see Arthur’s vegetable garden. Garden is mentioned 40 times in the Bible, The first instance is in Genesis 2:15 "And the Lord took a man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it”. "The garden has always represented the beautiful and satisfying in lifej it is the be- stower of hope and healing". Once again Jesus led his disciples to his garden "For he oftimes resorted thither". Mr, Critchfield was high on a ladder painting when we came oh the scene. Strawberries raspberries, beans, peas, tomatoes, com, cucumbers, squash, etc. Plenty for three families, Then he took us down the lane to show us the neighbors gardens - Vem Bennett, Bert Dow, Hall Poulsen, Tony Navratil and others. A worthwhile drive way. A.B. the Philosopher: A man who can control his thoughts. While on the ladder painting he thinks of the previous painter and the cheap pailit he used. Now to forget that he picks raspberries, irrigates, does some carpentering, shuns advice to enter the Senior Citizens home or live with offspring with small children, etc. He regulates his thinking like the turning of a wheel. Does much scientific reading etc. He is younger than you think. A man with an.open mind. H*0. BLY AUCTION SALE; To be held at the Bly residence Friday, August 3^th at 2 P.M. THE TINY SPARK Just in case the night is dark And the w?y is hard to find, ' Or if a storm should come along, And the sun forget to shine - A tiny light will do its part ' Throughout the darkest night, ' And though it may be just a spark, Its glow is just as bright. ’Tis proof that every little seed Of friendship that you sow Can light the hpllows of'the heart No matter where you go. The deed need not be always great To sooth a troubled mind — A tiny spark can start a flame' That grows and glows in time, ' For friendship’s like a beacon bright, That shines o’er sea and land, Uniting men though far or'near Establishing God’s plan. So let the light of friendship glow Reach out in gloom or dusk, A steadfast flame can light'the world But the spark is up to us. — Cynthia Daly Earleywine THE MAGRATH TRADING COMPANY WILL REMAIN CLOSED MONDAY, SEPT, 2nd, LABOR DAY. - round bone shoulder ., . . .
