A GOOD PLACE TO TRADE The abundance of snow along with the fact that much grain was stored out in the open and in fields over the winter is said to be . responsible for the over-population of mice which is causing concern. Farmers who were unable to get in all their hay and straw bales last fall now find the twine has been chewed and dozens of mice are housed under each bale. lawns have been damaged by the mice burrowing, and perenials and flower bulbs have been eaten by the pestsc Reports from Raymond Wednesday stated newly planted gardens and crops are being ruined and farmers say they will have to prison the mice like they do gophers. Mr. and Mrs. harles Matkin celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, May '7‘bh e Members of their family honored them with an 11 Open House” Saturday afternoon and evening at the Matkin home when friends, relatives and neighbors cal 1 ad to offer their congratulations and best wishes. Guests were greeted by sons Gordon and Jim Matkin. Granddaughters Christine Thomp­son and Wendy Anderson attended the guest register. Refreshments were served by grand­children and preparations for the event were in charge of the family assisted by Mrs. Gladys Sheer and Mrs, Esther Toomer. A beautiful wedding cake in the form of an open book — their book of 11 fe — was on display and was decorated by Mrs. Betty Briggs0 Lovely boquets of flowers were also displayed, • gifts of well--wishers. During the aftembon and evening a tape of recorded organ music was played, a gift of Mirs. Maud Ririe which she presented to Mr. and Mirs* Matkino • Mr. and Mrs. Matkin were married in the Salt Lake City Temple May 7th, 1919. They are the parents of two sons Gordon of Lethbridge, Jim of MT 1k River; four daughters Mrs* Harold (Kathleen) Anderson of Milk River, Mrs. Johnny (LaVaun) Thompson ¿>f Spring Coin!hr, Mrs. Paul (Nola) Madge of Milk River and Mrs. Jim (Lucille) Blaxall of Lethbridge and 17 grandchildren. • Numerous cards, letters, telephone calls and telegrams.were received as well as certificates of congratulations and some personal letters from Prime Mi ni s+.pr Trudeau, Hon. HaA. (Bud)' Olson, Gov. General Mitchener, Premier Strom, Lt. Gov. Giant MacEwen, and Rt. Hon. Robert Stanfield. Mr. and Mrs. Matkin were pleasantly surprised by a visit from David Smith who made his.home with the Natkins for several years and travelled by Car from Wawa, Ontario where he is manager of the Hudsons Bay Co. to be with them on this happy Occasion* Patients in the Magrath Hospital during the past week included Mrs. Pearl Austin, Mrs. Melba Hocking, Mrs- Margaret Fletcher, Mrs. Winnie Bourne, Mr. Alex Poulsen, Mrs. Louise Many Grey Horses, Mrs. Geneva Wood, Mrs. Mi ria Zundel, Clarence Whiteman Left, iroy Lynn Harker, Timotny Wakefield, Mrs. Vera Hi Timer. Several Magrath artists took part in the "Stars of the Festival" Concert at the Paramount Theatre Friday evening concluding, the annual Kinsman Music and Speech Festival. Included were. Byrne Brewerton and Kim Taylor of the Lethbridge Vi o~l in Studi o group and Miss Sharon Sam who sang a vocal solo. Miss Terry Wolsey received the Rotary Club $50 scholarship; Miss Sam received a $25 Miner's Library Club Award and. the Annie B. Cull trophy. C>oe*oae*ai» The fist Lethbridge Theatre Awards for local amateur productions was presented Mon­day night at which a local artist, Miss Melaine Harker tied for best actress in a first featured role award when she appeared in "The Boy Friend"0 Melaine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harker and has been active in speech arts and dancing as well as play productions. Miss Linda Robinson of Fort Macleod was a Magrath visitor during the weekend, the guest of Miss Adeline Schmidt.
