WINTER SÄLE DISTRICT AGRICULTURIST REPORT Have Seed Treated - be sure to consider having your seed treated while it is being cleaned. This provides economical insurance against many diseases and some ir ;ect pests of seed, and seedlings. Chemical treatment can give seedlings / a head start in preventing or reduc- > ing damage from certain crop pests. i Seed of resistant varieties and seed of susceptable varieties that is free i of smut, should not normally require treatment. Seed treatment with lindane formulations will control wireworms1 and flea beetles. The newer seed treatments are safer to use than those available 10 years ago. Del Steed, John Knapp, D.A.'s. DISTRICT HOME ECONOMIST REPORT Sewing Tips for Velour * preshrink fabric before cutting. *velour has a nap, be careful when laying out pattern pieces. *use sharp shears and pins. *use a sharp machine needle, a fine or ball point needle may be required for some fabrics. *use a slightly longer machine stitch, stretching the fabric as you sew or sew seams with a fine zigzag. *for fabrics that ravel or roll under, trim close to seam and zigzag edges together. *hems can be done by hand using a tailor’s hem or tap stitched by machine. Velour is surprisingly easy to sew garments can be made at a fraction of cost of ready-to-wear. — UP COMING COURSES - Hair Cutting, Instructor Barb Andrews. Date - Feb. 5,12,19,26. Time 7:30 - 9:30.
