The weather turned out .great for those who volunteered to sit on the dunk tank. Thanks to all who volunteered to get wet, we raised $150. Raffle tables were also set up all weekend. Thank you to all local businesses who donated prizes, to those who bought tickets, and congratulations to the lucky winners. We also sold 50/50 tickets and raffled off a Texas Mickey, which was won by Charlotte Nelson (congratulations). All the proceeds went to Milo's Fire and Rescue, a total of $758. We also owe a big congratulations to all the ball teams on a job well done, since some players couldn't attend because of harvest. Last but not least congrats to the Milo Mafia team who won the tournament undefeated, and the other teams on a job well done. Thank you all again for your support. Your County Council has been working on a Fire Ban by-law for some time now. I am partly opposed to this, but by having a permit you will be able to burn something up or down, what ever, and not be fined. The part I do not like is getting a permit to light your garbage barrel fire. You may need a new one every 5 days, or so it seems to me! In the last Advocate there is an article on your County Council and discussing purchasing a vehicle for our by-law officer. We put the money in the budget last year so that is not the problem. What I am wondering is how fancy do we need to be for a unit that will be travelling on gravel roads 90% of the time. A Suburban? I don t think so. An S.U.V.?, I don’t know. How about a van such as a tradesman would use? We need to have the right unit as we keep them a long time and they need to be outfitted with a lot of safety equipment, so the price is only part of the equation. The latest on 542 is, after September 1 or 15th work should start. Top Notch Construction is the dirt contractor on this job. Apparently they have been held up on a job at Hannah, due to weather problems. I hope they can get it all done before the winter sets in! If you want gravel, they were loading at the Ingraham pit, but you should phone the office first. I think Wednesday is the day they load farm trucks. The County has purchased a used machine to use on the dirt abatement program. So that crew should be back in action now. The dirt crew has done 7 miles of new construction and are most likely ahead of schedule. Street Signs for the County have been discussed again. It costs a lot of money to install these signs and then they have to be maintained. I am thinking it might be more practical to put them on the township lines and then you could figure out from there where you want to go. Present were Mayor Bath, Councillor Vooys, Councillor Whaley, andMunicipal Administrator Dorothy Way. The mmutes of the meeting held on June 18, 2001 were read. Mayor Bath moved the adoption of these minutes. The Peter Dawson wants to enclose the courtyard with a roof over the top, and have 4 additional resident rooms developed. These would be built in the present multipurpose room. Mayor Bath has talked to Wes from Shawnee about the Village having a map of all the shut off valves. The Municipal Administrator to ask Kevin Booth if he has received a price on having the reservoirs relined. We require another estimate before we can begin the street paving. The Municipal Administrator will get another estimate. The Municipal 2001 Sponsorship Program has been completed and sent in. The Village of Lomond, the Lions Club, Simmonds, and Larry Umschied will have something in the parade. Mayor Mitchell of Vulcan will not be attending. The parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. on August 12/01. Gilbert Vooys to be the parade marshall. The Municipal Administrator will send a letter to Barry McFarland and Grant Lahd to see if they will be in the parade. Mayor Bath will find out whether the Peter Dawson will have an entry in the parade. The street dance will be on August 11, 2001 at the Community Hall. We will require volunteers to help with the cleanup of the hall after the dance. The Village gave permission to the school to use the Village tractor to trench a water line and to plumb in a tap to the south end of the pumphouse to be equipped with a timer for watering the trees. The assessor asked the Village Council if they would be interested in having pictures taken of each parcel in the Village at the cost of $10.00 a parcel. These pictures would then be put on the assessor's assessment cards. The Village Council declined this proposal. The Village received an amended agreement beteween the Vulcan County Solid Waste Authority and the participating municipalities for the establishment of a regional solid waste authority which they would like approved by a resolution. WHEREAS, The Village of Milo Council met and had a discussion on the amended agreement betwenn the Vulcan County Solid Waste and the participating municipalities. WHEREAS, it was MOVED by Councillor Vooys on Monday, July 16,2001 to approve the amended agreement. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village of Milo agreed to the amended agreement between the Vulcan County Solid Waste and the participating municipalities. The Village Council was asked if Railway Avenue could be graded. Dougs Marks will grade this road as soon as he can. The Municipal Administrator is trying to get hold of CPR to cut the grass. When they have been contacted the Municipal Administrator will ask if we can have an agreement with them to cut the grass annually. The next Council meeting of the Village of Milo was set for Monday, August 20, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Office. MOSQUITO”S BOTHERING YOU??? Here is a good thing for the summer, for those people who like to sit and enjoy the out of doors, but don’t like those pesky Mosquitoes. Put some water in a white dinner plate and add just a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dishwashing soap. Put it on your patio. I don’t know what attracts the, the lemon smell, the white colour or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead and fall into the water, or on the floor within about 10 ft. If you have problems with mosquitoes getting into your house, set up one of these traps in your kitchen, on the counter. Works just super! Enjoy the rest of this summer mosquito free. The books are available in town, so pick one up and keep it in a safe place (I usually misplace mine). Check through all the categories and see what you might like to enter, again I usually mark ;he categories, and read carefully to see what is specifically asked for. If you are planning on entering in the baking section again select the product you want to jnter in each category. Find you recipes in you cook book and put in a bookmark with the name of the recipe showing, this saves time searching when the final crunch comes. For jam, jelly and pickle entries wipe the jars and the ring for good presentation. Just remember the fair is only successful as ties number of entries they receive. The biggest problem is that we seem to have run out of space, and due to a “ technical hitch” (the owner doesn’t know how to ran the new digital camera) we do not have any pictures either. There was a very nice write-up in the Vulcan Advocate along with some good pictures, so we hope you will forgive us. Again many thanks go all who participated, parading, working behind the scenes or even watching it all made for a fun time. Without the volunteers it would never have happened. It always amazes people when such a small place can produce such a fine show. Just think what might happen for our 80th celebrations!!!Lomond Figure Skating and Dance Club Are you or your children interested in Skating or Dance? After reading several farm papers, it seems there may be problems ahead for us who have not tagged. I can first see all those big cattle buyers letting good calves go to smaller buyers .10c/pound cheaper because of no tags. In some cases a calf will have 3 or 4 owners before it is actually slaughtered for meat. No matter what happens to that animal after you sell it, it will be traced back to you for explanations. In the August 23rd issue of the Western Producer there is a question of who will have access to the information on these cattle. Why would the R.C.M.P. need this information? How about Revenue Canada? It appears you might as well print your personal finances in the local paper, is there no privacy left in this country? How many times do you get asked for your Social Insurance Number these days? I don’t see why so many government agencies need to know what people are doing. Also I see where the Canadian Cattleman’s Association has plans to collect a dollar a head off of all cattle sold in Canada. Most cattle are sold at least three times, sure beats working for a living, being able to “tax” someone else’s efforts. Now a dollar is not a lot on a $1,000.00 animal, but it is the principle. Need money to run your organization? See who has got some and then get the government to help get it, probable tax-free too! Although the tag deal is a done deal, I think cattlemen need to make sure it is used as intended and not as a source of information to people who like to snoop.
