In the context of escalating global antibiotic resistance, the search for new antimicrobial agents has led to the investigation of unexplored niches, such as the Antarctic environment. This study involved the isolation and characterization of bacterial strains, the extraction and analysis of their secondary metabolites, and the evaluation of these metabolites’ antimicrobial activity against E. coli. Our findings suggest that Antarctic sediment bacteria produce secondary metabolites with antimicrobial properties, offering promising avenues for the development of new antibacterial drugs. This research not only contributes to the understanding of microbial diversity in extreme environments but also underscores the potential of environmental bioprospecting to address the urgent need for new antimicrobials.
